Oak Term 1

Welcome to Term 1

This term we are studying the following:

The Minpins by Roald Dahl

Description or both what something looks like and how it moves will be the focus of the children's writing.

Goodnight Mr Tom by Michelle Magorian

The focus here will be to learn about the process of evacuation while becoming empathetic with the characters and getting the children to imagine what it would have been like.

Term 1 is all about numbers up to 1,000,000

Our main objectives are:

To read, write, order, compare and round numbers, and to determine the value of each digit.

To count forwards and backwards in steps of power of 10 (10, 100, 1000, 10,000 etc)

To interpret negative numbers in terms of temperature and bank balances

To add and subtract using mental calculations and formal written methods

Linked to our second English book, we will be looking at what life was like during World War Two, especially during The Blitz.

We will study the circulatory system and the effect diet and exercise has on it. We will look closely at how the heart works and what can be found in blood.

During our PE sessions, we will be practising the skills linked to indoor athletics, and getting ready for a competition against other schools (details to follow)

We will be creating a PowerPoint to teach others about the airplanes used during The Battle of Britain.
